After a long courageous battle with cancer, Cordie Lynn Smith born December 8, 1925 in Memphis, TN passed away peacefully on September 25, 2014 with family by her side. Married to James Martin Smith in 1947, she had 4 children, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In Memphis, Cordie was involved with the Sweet Adeline's, and worked at Ruby's dress shop. She moved to Las Cruces in 1972 where she worked for Estee Lauder at The White House and Dillard's for 18 years helping women look their best. After retiring, she continued to work during promotional times for an additional 7 years. She was involved with Business and Professional Women, the American Cancer Society where she was awarded the Teresa Lasser State Award for Volunteer of the Year. She was also active in the Reach to Recovery, and Look Good - Feel Better Programs and served on the Board of Southern New Mexico Cancer Support Services. After retiring she belonged to the Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary and worked in the hospital gift shop as a volunteer. Cordie is survived by her son, Chuck Smith and wife Cheryl of Boerne, TX, grandsons Andrew Smith and Zachary Smith, granddaughters Rachel Pitts and Rebecca Snyder. Cordie was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy, two sons Glenn and Neal, daughter Pamela (Kate) and granddaughter Teresa. The family wishes to extend special thanks to close friends Margie Emison, Kaye Nix, Betty Creason, Cynthia Schiller, Lynda Taylor, Carol Richmond, Mary Zimmerman, and Mary Madlock. The family is grateful that she was blessed to have the caring staff at Grace Village and Mesilla Valley Hospice seeing to her needs. Her services will be held at a later date.
