Dale L. Pohl, 71, of Las Cruces, NM died at his home Monday July 16, 2007. He was born May 10, 1936 in Emporia, Kansas to Verna C. (Haake) and Gus O. Pohl. Dale graduated from Emporia High School in 1954. He graduated with honors from Emporia State University in 1957 completing his education in three years by taking extra hours while working 3 part-time jobs. He received his Masters in Public Administration from the University of Kansas in 1959 and went on to earn his Jurist Doctorate from Washburn University in 1963 and began private practice in Eureka, Kansas. During his private practice he served as the City Attorney for 33 years and the Greenwood County Counselor. Dale served on the Kansas Board of Governors of the Kansas Bar Association and was elected President of that organization in 1989. He also served on the Board of Directors of Kansas Blue Cross/Blue Shield where he was Vice President of the board. He was appointed by Governor Bill Graves as District Judge of the 13th Judicial District in June 1999 and held that position until his retirement in June 2004. In addition to his public offices he was President of the Eureka School Board, served as President of the Church Council of Peace Lutheran and was on the board of many civic and charitable organizations. Dale also loved to golf, fish, hike, and travel. He and Diana retired to Las Cruces, NM June 2004. Dale married Diana Darden July 27, 1980 and together they raised five children. Pam Close and husband Jay of the Woodlands, TX, Scott Pohl and wife Kim of Wichita, KS, Ken Pohl and wife Cynthia of Clearwater, FL, Ryan Darden of New York, NY, and Aaron Darden of San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Katelyn Scates, Lynna Scates, Logan Pohl, Austin Pohl, Sarah Pohl, and Rachel Pohl. A memorial service will be held Friday July 20, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Peace Lutheran Church (1701 Missouri Ave.). Officiating will be Pastor Steve Loy. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Dale's name be sent to the Peace Lutheran Church for the Board of Servant Corps Ministry fund. PDF Printable Version
