Daniel E. Carrillo, 78, lifelong resident of Las Cruces, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, after a six-year battle with cancer. Daniel was born August 22, 1933, and was well-known for his stucco work in the Las Cruces area. Many of the buildings in Las Cruces and at New Mexico State University can be attributed to his work. But his true passion was family and friends, and he will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Rachel, son Danny of Las Cruces, daughter Barbara Trujillo of Las Cruces, daughter Minerva and husband Eric Conrad of Las Cruces, daughter Sylvia and husband Joe Hughes of Surprise, Arizona, grandsons Aaron Trujillo of Las Cruces, Louie Amador and wife Monica of Wichita Falls, Texas, Daniel Amador of Spokane, Washington, great granddaughter Adrianna Trujillo of Albuquerque, and great grandsons Jaden and Alex Amador of Wichita Falls, Texas. He is also survived by sisters Emilia Carrillo of El Paso, Mary Lou Medina of Mesilla, Minnie Hille of Duncan, Arizona, Florence Nemec of El Paso, and brother Jimmy Carrillo of Las Cruces. Daniel also had many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends who loved him. Preceding him in death were his parents Luis and Tomasita Carrillo. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012, from 5 to 6 p.m. with a prayer vigil to follow at 6 p.m. at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Getz Funeral Home with Fr. Don Adamski as celebrant. The right of committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Aaron Trujillo, Joe Hughes, Tommy Carrillo, Henry Rodriguez, Garry Carrillo and Ricky Lujan.
