On March 1, 2022, Daniel Watkins, born April 26, 1951, passed away quietly in his sleep following a long struggle with health issues. At the time of his death, Mr. Watkins resided in Las Cruces, NM, but he lived most of his life in Grant County, NM, where he was a well-known figure who participated in many community activities. On March 1, 2022, Daniel Watkins, born April 26, 1951, passed away quietly in his sleep following a long struggle with health issues. At the time of his death, Mr. Watkins resided in Las Cruces, NM, but he lived most of his life in Grant County, NM, where he was a well-known figure who participated in many community activities. He was a huge fan of the Rodeos in Grant County, bowled on a league where he usually had the highest average, participated in the Tour of the Gila-unofficially and on a bike with no gears while finishing the race with an enviable time. He also enjoyed participating in archery shoots with the Mangus Bowmen Archery club and doing craft projects that were entered into competition at the Grant County Fair and many other activities. During his life, Mr. Watkins met his physical and other challenges with grit and determination.
He will be greatly missed by his long-time roommate RC, who was like a brother to him as well as the many other friends he lived and worked with over the years at the former Life Quest, Horizon Services, Direct Therapy Services, and Lessons of Life.
His guardian Benjamin Lewis would like to thank Lucretia Jones, Sun Country Care Management, Direct Therapy Services, Horizon Services, Ambercare, Mesilla Valley Hospice, and Community Options for their support and care for Mr. Watkins on his final journey on this Earth.
Cremation has taken place, and inurnment services will be held in Grant County at a later date.
