Darlene D. Speer, 90 of Las Cruces, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008. She was born Dec. 28, 1917 in Moline, Illinois, to Lester and Louise Ballard. Darlene had a love of cooking but her passion was for her family. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends who knew and loved her. Darlene D. Speer, 90 of Las Cruces, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008. She was born Dec. 28, 1917 in Moline, Illinois, to Lester and Louise Ballard. Darlene had a love of cooking but her passion was for her family. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sons Eugene Speer, Arthur Speer and Randy Speer; daughters Marilyn DuVall, Nancy Vehstedt and Delores Lewis; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters Mildred Nickelson, Mary Caroline Phillips, Betty Marley, Adda Little and Alta Pearson. Her loving husband Alvin Speer, brother Lester Lee Speer and sister Katherine Calhoun preceded Darlene in death. A visitation will be held from 8:30 AM on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home. Graveside services to celebrate her life will follow at 9:30 AM on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Masonic Cemetery with Dr, Marcus Burr officiating.
