David Scott Dixon was born July 1, 1947, in Pontiac Michigan, and passed away on August 13, 2022, at the age of 75. His parents were Gertrude Jarvis Dixon and John B. Dixon. David is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Clifford J. Dixon. He is survived by his wife Barbara Carrillo Dixon, son Clifford R. Dixon, his sister Michele McEachern (husband David) of Lufkin, TX, sister-on-law Eileen Dixon (widow of Clifford J.) of South Boston VA. And several nephews and nieces. He attended New Mexico State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering. He was proud to serve in the US Army and was stationed at Fr. Richardson, Alaska, from 1970 to 1973. He worked for Lockheed and NASA at WSTF, NM for NASA at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX, and retired from TRAC, WSMR in 2006, after 27 years of service. David was also an amateur astronomer and established Jornada Observatory in his home. He discovered and Aided in the discovery of several asteroids. He named a few asteroids, including one honoring Las Cruces. A celebration of David's life will be held from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the VFW Post 3242, 201 N. Mesquite, Las Cruces; a Vigil will be held at 7:00 pm on September 13, 2022, at Getz Funeral Home Chapel, 1410 E. Bowman Ave, with a mass at 10:00 am on September 14, 2022, at Holy Cross Catholic Church 1327 N. Miranda, Las Cruces. Inurnment of his cremains will take place immediately in the St. Francis Garden Columbarium at Holy Cross. The family would like to thank the Las Cruces Fire station NO. 5 EMT's, Memorial Medical Center, University Medical Center in EL Paso, Las Cruces Post-Acute Care and Rehabilitation of Cascadia and Mesilla Valley Hospice for their excellent care of David during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice at 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces NM 88001. Service Information
