On January 2, 1950 the world became a better place when Deland "Gary" Saunders was born. Gary was called home and embraced by Jesus Christ as his good and faithful servant on February 17, 2006. Gary was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He was a great role model for us all to look up to and touched many people's lives. He deeply loved his whole family; his wife Susan, married for 30 years, his two sons Brian and Chris, his mother, father, sister, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts uncles, and in laws. But over the last years of his life he formed a special relationship with his four grandchildren; Evan, Ethan, Eyan and Lyric. Gary died doing what he loved "helping others" and we can all learn from his extraordinary example that he set and lived everyday by passing on his great generosity and warm heartedness. Gary greatest accomplishment is making it home to heaven but his pride and joy is his family and he knows and we all know that his legacy lives on! We all love you so much. Gary is survived by his wife Susan, his two sons, Brian and Chris, Brian's wife Jacque, his mother and father, Tom and June, his sister Ethel and her husband Larry, and their two kids Randy and Nancy. His four grandchildren, Evan, Ethan, Eyan and Lyric and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws also survive Gary. Gary is an honorably discharged Vietnam veteran of the United States Air Force and served his country proudly from September 18, 1969 to September 17, 1973. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at Getz Funeral Home. The Funeral Services will be at 2 PM on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 also at Getz Funeral Home with Pastor Johnny Elliot officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors accorded by The United States Marine Corp League
