Delbert A. Hawkins, 94 of Las Cruces, NM went to be with his heavenly father on December 16, 2010. He was born on June 21, 1916 in Stratford, Oklahoma to Comador Aldee and Armer Hawkins. In 1923 the Hawkins family moved by covered wagon to Mt. Park, Oklahoma. Years later in 1936, after he graduated from High School, he moved to Roswell, NM where he met his wife to be, Winnie Mae Elder. Delbert proudly served his country In the United States Army during World War II. After the Army, Delbert worked in the auto-parts business in Las Cruces from 1945-1988 owning Western Cars Parts. He enjoyed playing golf, swimming and spending time with his extended family at University Church of Christ. Delbert's pride and joy were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Hawkins will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by his sons Larry Hawkins and wife Kay of Las Cruces and Terry Hawkins and wife Roxa of Fairbanks, sisters, Almeta Tally of Broken Arrow, OK, Wanda Lewis of Grand Prairie, TX. Delbert is also survived by his grandchildren Luke and wife Shauna, Seth Hawkins, Mimi and husband Dan Morris, Kellie and husband Bobby Cullen; great-grandchildren Paige and Kaleigh Morris and Sydney Hawkins and many nieces and nephews. His wife of 67 years Winnie Mae preceded him in death. Also preceding him are two sisters, Wauneta Walters and Frankie Bell, a brother Neil "Spud" Hawkins. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Monday December 20, 2010 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services are at 2:00 PM on Tuesday December 21, 2010 at University Church of Christ with his grandsons-in-law Bobby Cullen and Dan Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
