It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dolores (Dee) Serna, age 70, of Las Cruces on Thursday, June 8, 2017. She was born in Las Cruces, NM on December 6, 1946 to Lewis P. and Fannie P. Serna of Las Cruces, NM. Dee was an active parishioner at Holy Cross Church where she was involved in prayer meetings and bible study. Dee enjoyed the theater and acting; she was a regular season pass holder of the Las Cruces Community Theater and would always extend invitations to her nieces and nephews to attend a variety of performances with her. She also enjoyed playing competitive games of Scrabble where only she could put down a two-letter word and receive fifty points. Dee was a crowd favorite with those who loved her for her quick wit and many stories. She was very proud of all her nieces' and nephews' accomplishments and eager to help celebrate each occasion. She cherished spending time with relatives and friends during the holidays and many family gatherings. She will be truly missed. Dee had a career in electronics working at White Sands Missile Range with Lockheed and Physical Science Laboratory (PSL); she also lived in Palo Alto, CA from 1970-1988 and worked at Watkins Johnson, a company based in San Francisco. She earned an Associate of Applied Science in Electronic Services from Dona Ana Community College and continued her education in self-study where she gained a wealth of knowledge on a wide-range of subjects. As a Presiding Judge during local elections she recognized her role as an essential part of our democratic system as she served her party faithfully. She is survived by her sisters; Josie Jaramillo, Frances Qualtrough, and Theresa Lucero. Other survivors include numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
