Donald A. Smith, 78 of Las Cruces, NM died Monday January 23, 2012. He was born to Albert and Blanche Smith on January 21, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Donald was a veteran of the US Army where he served our country honorably as an Infantry Unit Commander. Donald was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Las Cruces Shrine Club and Scottish Rite. Donald A. Smith, 78 of Las Cruces, NM died Monday January 23, 2012. He was born to Albert and Blanche Smith on January 21, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Donald was a veteran of the US Army where he served our country honorably as an Infantry Unit Commander. Donald was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Las Cruces Shrine Club and Scottish Rite. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, camping and had a passion for golf which he gratefully passed down to his son. Donald also enjoyed traveling and the company of his four legged friend Kashi. Mr. Smith will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife Janus Smith of the family home; son Michael Smith and wife Shelli of Las Cruces; daughter Susan Winters of Reno, NV; sister LaDonna Kiefer and husband David of Florida. Also surviving him are his four grandchildren Scott and Erika Winters and Tessa and Laine Smith. Donald was preceded in death by his parents. A visitation will be held from 11 to 12 noon on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at Getz Funeral Home. Graveside Services to celebrate his life will follow at 1:30 PM also on Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Joe Whitley and the Masonic Lodge officiating.
