Donald Earl Wallace, age 84, died May 16, 2014, at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mr. Wallace was born September 10, 1929 to DeRae and Ethel Evelyn (Braley) Wallace in Upton, Wyoming at the home of his maternal grandparents, William and Ina Braley. He spent his boyhood years on the "S Cross" cattle ranch in Fall River County, South Dakota, on the Wyoming-South Dakota-Nebraska border, a property operated by his father and founded by his great grandfather Alexander Holcomb Wallace in the years before either Wyoming or South Dakota had achieved statehood. After high school graduation in Seattle, WA, he served in the U.S. Army in the Occupation of Japan 1946-48 and again in the Korean War 1950-52. In the intervening years he served as a "Smokejumper" (parachutist firefighter) with the U.S. Forest Service based in Cave Junction, OR. He was a graduate of the University of Washington. He retired from The Boeing Company in 1990 after a career of 35 years. Don is survived by his wife Teri Van Huss of Las Cruces; son Craig Loring Wallace of Albany, OR, daughter Meredith Lynn Patterson of Houston, TX and daughter Brynn Elizabeth Wallace of Seattle; four grandchildren (Josh Coon, Ryan Coon, Cory Wallace and Zachary Wallace); four great-grandchildren (Brooke, Kyle, Paige and Landon Coon) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are his sister Delores Elaine Skinner of Spokane, WA, and his brother Robert Gordon Wallace Esq. (wife Kristin Wolfram) of Port Townsend, WA. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, his son-in-law, James Patterson, and his youngest son, Ian Stuart Wallace. His cremains will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
