It is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of our brother and friend Donald Ray Hignight, known to close friends as Big D, 53.

The angels appeared on the morning of March 26, 2024, to carry Donald home after a courageous battle with cancer. Donald was known for his love of others, kind heart, and huge sense of humor. Donald was a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan; he watched all their games. He loved race cars, drag racing, and mechanics. Donald was a friend to all. He will be missed by many.

Donald is preceded in death by his father, James and his mother, Linda Hignight. Both his maternal and paternal grandparents. His childhood friend Shannon Macaw Jones. Donald is survived by his brother Michael, sister Stacy of Las Cruces, his nephews Michael Hignight, Damon, Nathan, and Kaden Sanchez. Aunts Earlene Bryant (Harrison), Sherry Harmeson (Ross), Uncles Dennis Hobbs (Susie), Earl Hobbs (Marie), and many cousins. Lifelong friends Mary Garcia, Gary Godfrey, LeeAnne Sgambati, and Yvonne Powers. Our lives will have an empty space that only Donald can fill. We love you Donald and we will miss you.

As requested, Donald will be cremated, and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help with funeral expenses. Donations can be made at

2 Timothy 4:7-8

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. Amen
