Donald Clarence Sawyers passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Village at Northrise in Las Cruces, NM. Donald Clarence Sawyers passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Village at Northrise in Las Cruces, NM. He is survived by his children, Scott Sawyers of Dallas, TX and Donna Bader and husband Jeff of Bozeman, MT, Granddaughters Chelsea Foster and husband Tyce of Lubbock, TX and Tess Meacham and husband Chris of Bozeman, MT, Great-grandsons Dawson Kade Meacham and Townes Landry Foster, sisters Bertha Hutto and Wanda Wyatt and husband John of Las Cruces, as well as his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Arlene Sawyers. Don was born on June 13, 1939 in Las Cruces, NM to Helene and Joseph (Jake) Sawyers. He graduated from Las Cruces High School prior to marrying Arlene in 1958. Donald was a lifelong carpenter and began his own construction company after many years with the local Carpenter's Union. Don and Arlene built the company into a successful business that they ran for over thirty years prior to their retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Las Cruces Homebuilder's Association. In addition to running his business, he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with family and friends. He spent many hours on the various ranches in southern New Mexico hunting quail and deer and fishing for bass and catfish at Elephant Butte and Caballo lakes. The family would like to offer special thanks to his friends and caretakers Javier and Ede Torres for their loving care and commitment to both Donald and Arlene. They would also like to thank the staff at The Village at Northrise Memory Care, Amber Care Hospice, and Home Instead. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Getz Funeral Home.
