Donna Jean Mabie, 82, a long time resident of Las Cruces, New Mexico passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 24, 2017. Donna was born in 1935 in Dubois, Pennsylvania to Don and Bridgett Good, and she was the eldest of six children. She married Norman J. Mabie in 1953 and they came to live in New Mexico a few years later. Except for a brief 3-year military tour in Germany in the 1960s, they called Las Cruces home ever since. When Donna and Norm originally arrived in Las Cruces in 1955, they wondered what they had done to deserve being transferred to such an isolated and desolate place, so foreign compared to Georgia where Norm was stationed previously and Pennsylvania where they had both grown up. They soon realized that New Mexico was a big slice of heaven; since they both truly enjoyed the great outdoors and the wonderful friends they made here. Donna was an excellent cook, she liked playing card games, and hosted many holiday parties for her friends. She loved visiting the Inn of the Mountain Gods Casino in Ruidoso, and enjoyed fishing and camping. She especially enjoyed summer vacations in Colorado. Always an enthusiastic hunter, she once shot half a case of shotgun shells to land one unlucky dove. Donna was a devoted Roman Catholic and was very faithful to her religion and her church. Donna is preceded in death by her husband Norm J. Mabie, and is survived by her three sons Chip and wife Sharon of Keller, Texas, David Sr., and Davey Jr., both of Las Cruces, grandson Matthew of Austin, and granddaughter Diana of San Francisco. Recitation of the Rosary is scheduled for November 4, 2017 at 9:30AM, with the Funeral Liturgy immediately following at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina St in Las Cruces. Cremation has taken place and she will be placed next to her beloved husband Norm in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral Columbarium. Friends and family of Donna respectfully request that in lieu of flowers consider a donation to the American Heart Association or Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. Service Information
