Doris A. Deemer, affectionately known as Granny D, passed away Friday, July 27th 2007 at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice after a brief battle with cancer. She was 79 at the time of her passing. Doris A. Deemer, affectionately known as Granny D, passed away Friday, July 27th 2007 at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice after a brief battle with cancer. She was 79 at the time of her passing. Doris was born in Ropesville, Tx. to Velma and Loy Bolin June 2nd, 1928. She spent most of her youth on farms in West Texas. Doris graduated from Odessa High School in 1946. In 1948 Doris met and married Robert F. Deemer, they were married for 54 years, before Bob's passing in 2002. Doris and Bob moved to Las Cruces in 1956, the place she considered home. Bob's employment sent them to Mesquite, Tx. in 1969. They left behind many great friends from the old neighborhood on Lee's Dr. In Mesquite they became associated with the B.P.O.E. (Elks) and accumulated many new and great friends. They stayed in Mesquite until 1986, they then returned to Las Cruces upon Bob's retirement. Doris worked for many years of her life as a bookkeeper in Texas and here in Las Cruces. Upon her return to Las Cruces in 1986, Doris worked as a bookkeeper but only part-time so she could help take care of her granddaughters. Doris also continued to be an active member of the B.P.O.E., DOES Drove. She served as a past Treasurer and President for the DOES. Doris leaves behind many great friends in the Elks Club both here in Las Cruces and Mesquite, Tx. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Robert F. Deemer, her mother Velma Heath, her stepfather, Ted Heath, her father, Loy Bolin, and brother Glynn Bolin. She leaves behind three sons Dan Deemer, and wife Diane of Midland, Tx. , Dale Deemer and wife Diane (DeeDee) of Las Cruces and Joe Bill Orr of Paris, Tx. Doris has three grandchildren, Kerrick Deemer of Midland, Tx., and Danielle and Carla Deemer of Las Cruces. She has one great-grandchild, Kylee Deemer of Midland, Tx. She is also survived by her sister Janelle Pendleton (Bill) of Frisco, Tx. and her brother Ted Heath (Linda) of Placitas, NM. Doris leaves behind many nieces and nephews and cousins. Arrangement are being taken care of by Getz Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Getz Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 31st, 2007 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.. Services will be at St. Paul's Methodist Church on Aug. 1st, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Gardens in Las Cruces. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to La Posada-Mesilla Hospice or your favorite charity. PDF Printable Version
