Dorothy Jo Garrett passed away March 19, 2007 at The Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas. She was born April 13, 1920, in Ardmore, Oklahoma to John Robert and Laura Faye Elliott, the youngest of five children. She was a graduate of Ardmore High School and worked as a telephone operator during World War II. At the end of the war, she resumed life as a homemaker. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, W.P. (Bud) Garrett. After her husband's military retirement from the U.S. Army at White Sands Proving Ground, New Mexico (WSMR), they moved to Las Cruces, and enjoyed traveling in their RV. Mrs. Garrett was a 50-year member of Las Cruces Chapter #20, Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron in 1966. She and her husband served as Grand Officers of the New Mexico Grand Chapter in 1971. Mrs. Garrett served as Grand Ester, while her husband served as Worthy Grand Patron. During their tenure as Grand Officers, they visited each Eastern Star Chapter in the state, making many friends and creating fond memories. Mr. and Mrs. Garrett have made their home in Houston, Texas for the past 10 years. Her children, Joe Dale Garrett and his wife Frances; Janice Roseman and her husband Robert, all of Houston, Texas; Linda Tharp and her husband Charles of Las Cruces, New Mexico also survive Mrs. Garrett. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christopher Garrett of Simi Valley, California; Robert Roseman IV and his wife, Robin and their children Ryan and Tyler of Dayton, Texas; Jo Carol Bailey and her husband, Ralph and their children Andrew, Austin, and Madison of Bryan, Texas; Laura Kendrick and her husband, Brian and their children Alexander and Coleman of Los Alamos, New Mexico; and Craig Tharp and his wife, Chandra and their daughter Alyssa of Las Cruces. Her parents, her sisters, Opal and Faye, and her brothers, Haskell, John, and William preceded her in death. Services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home at 10 AM. Presiding will be the Reverend Alice Helfrich. Pallbears will be her grandsons, Christopher Garrett, Craig Tharp, and Robert Roseman IV, and great-grandson, Alexander Kendrick. Also, Thomas Mobley and Whit Harvey. Memorial contributions may be made to Las Cruces Chapter #20, O.E.S. Benevolent Fund, P.O.
