Douglas Charles Richard Pelking was born on October 10, 1929, in Cincinnatti, OH. He died of an apparent heart attack on July 26, 2007, in Las Cruces, NM.. Douglas graduated Kaiser High School in Dayton, OH, in 1947, then immediately enlisted in the US Marine Corps, where he served as part of the American occupation forces in Europe following World War II. He married Marian Virginia Wahlert, his high school girlfriend, on August 19, 1950, while on leave. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Douglas earned an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Dayton. He went to work for Bendix Aerospace as a missile engineer, and spend most of his 35 years with Bendix at White Sands Missile Range, where he worked on the Typhon, Talos, and VANDAL missile projects for the U.S. Navy. Douglas is survived by Marian, his wife of 57 years; his son, Scott Pelking and his wife, Priscilla; and his daughter, Holly Pelking Zegelin and her husband, Chris Zegelin. There are three grandchildren: Ryan, and his wife, Kara; Rachel, and Robyn. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 31, in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 200 Boutz Road, at 10:30am. This will be followed immediately by a reception at the church, beginning at approximately 11:30am.
