Ret. Lt. Col. Durward Clyde Adams Born Oct 19, 1923 in Anson Texas, Jones County, son of Sam Adams and Mabel Wesley Adams He leaves behind two sisters: Aileen George and family of Liberal Kansas, Mazelle Padget and family of Coleman Texas, five brothers: Merle Adams deceased, Cloyd Adams and family of Tucson, Arizona, Jimmie Adams and family of Yucca Valley California, Harlie Adams and family of Bledsoe Texas, Dalton Adams and family of San Angelo Texas. DC as he liked to be called enlisted in the United States Army Oct 28, 1942. While in the Army he married Juanita West Adams in 1943 together they raised 3 children. Edward Clyde Adams deceased. Fayma Jo Hansen of Hudson Ohio and Patricia Anne Hardy of Phoenix Arizona. Juanita passed away in May 1987. DC proudly served and helped defend our great country for 26- 1/2 years. He is a Veteran of World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War. DC was awarded badges, commendations and campaign ribbons. GCMDL, ACM, World War II V.M, NDSM, C/OLC, AFM, VSM, RVCM, CFB, VN gallantry cross-GS, AM, BSM, 20/X bars, JSCM, AFR, w/IO yr., DEV, VN counter offensive Ph V, VN summer =Fall 69, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Honorable discharge after 26- 1/2 years, constantly demonstrated a sound mature practical judgment with outstanding performance coupled with a patient understanding. He earned a Bachelors Degree of Fine Art at the University of Alaska, leaving behind many beautiful paintings, which will be admired and treasured long after he is gone. DC was an avid fisherman, doing commercial fishing in Juneau, Alaska for 5 years before moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico, and making this his final home. DC and Juanita (Jane) Chavez Adams married November 1988 adding 4 more children to the already grown family. Stepson Randy Robert Dutchover deceased (1993), Ricky Kenneth Dutchover and wife of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Roger Ronald (Blue) Dutchover, wife and family of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Sandra Gent Torres, husband and family of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Grandchildren Beverly, Eddie Jr., Matthew, Tracey and Jayson. Great- grandchildren, Katelyn, Kayla, Adam, Zachary, Kyria, Natalie, Briana and Mikayla. DC also earned a degree in Business Law from the University of Colorado. He worked as Chief of Police in Tulia, Texas. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Monday April 17, 2006 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 7:00 PM. The funeral mass is at 10:00 AM on Tuesday April 18, 2006 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with Fr. Ricardo Bauza officiating. Rite of Committal will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery with full military honors. PDF Printable Version
