Edward Rolland Osborn, 78 years old, died March 16, 2015 in Las Cruces, NM. Edward was born April 1, 1936 in Camargo, Oklahoma to Rosalie Ella (Weir) and Clifford Rolland Osborn. He graduated from Highland High in Albuquerque, NM in 1954. He joined the U.S. Navy after graduation and spent most of his navy career in San Diego as an IC Gyrocompass Electrical Technician. He also served abroad several ships in the Mediterranean, as well as shore duty in Hawaii where he raised and lowered the flag over the USS Arizona. He retired from the Navy in 1974 with a National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He went on to work for several housing developments in the San Diego area. In 1984, he moved to Deming, NM where he began work at K-Mart and later joined the Luna County Sherriff's Department as a jailer. He later went through the police academy in Santa Fe, NM and became a deputy at the age of 52. His main duty was as the court process server. In 1988, he married his wife, Catherine Craghead. Together they became a blended family of 9 children. He is survived by his wife Cathy Osborn of 27 years; his daughters, Cheryl Murphy of Rochester Hills, MI, Candace Vance of Spring Valley, CA, Leah Linebarger of Safford, AZ, Nancy Rodriguez of Roswell, NM, Melissa Rodriguez and Marcia Maynes with husband Jonathan Maynes of Las Cruces, NM and Layla Shackelford of Little Falls, NJ. He is also survived by two sons, Daryl Osborn with wife Brenda Osborn of Hillsboro, ND and Douglas Linebarger with wife Wendy Linebarger of Kenner, LA. Also, surviving Edward are his brothers Bruce Bowman of Albuquerque, NM and Gary L. Bowman of Las Lunas, Jerry Osborn of Albuquerque and one sister, Kathy Godec of Moriarty, NM and a niece, Denise Rumley-Plunkett. He was the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A Funeral Service is scheduled for Thursday March 19, 2015 at 9:30am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Venus Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
