Elizabeth L. Mayfield, 95, passed away peacefully at Mesilla Valley Hospice on November 14, 2014. Our Mom was born October 21, 1919 in Mobridge, South Dakota to John and Hattie Seefeld. She moved to Seattle, Washington after high school and worked for the Department of the Navy as an Administrative Assistant. It was in Seattle that she met our Dad, James Mayfield and was married July 9, 1943. They moved to Las Cruces in 1950 where Mom started working at White Sands Proving Ground, (WSMR). She was involved in the Loki and Honest John missile programs and ended her Civil Service career as Training Officer in the Civilian Personnel office in 1973. Mom was very involved in her church, St. Andrews Episcopal Church. She helped establish the Altar Guild, the Sunday school and most important to her, the Daughters of the King, Santa Rosa Chapter along with chapters state wide. According to our family, Mom's claim to fame were her pies . . . . . . apple, pumpkin and cherry, to the point that a contract was drawn up to provide one pie a week for the rest of her life. She was always "there" for her grandchildren, always making sure they had books to read and a good snack after school. She was very influential in their lives with love and time. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Barrett, (Michael) of Las Cruces and Wendy Bedy, (Edward, deceased) of Albuquerque, five grandchildren, Rick Kilby, (Lory) of Monroe, WA, Lisa Butler, (Tim) of Las Cruces, Stacie Miller, (Chad) of San Antonio, TX, Jamie Wood, (Jolene) of Thornton, CO, and David Paul Bedy, (Sara) of Ventura, CA and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by nephews and a niece, Tony McAuliffe, (Gabi), of St. Leon, Germany, Mike Eichelberg, (Mary Ann) of Brookings, SD, Randy Eichelberg of Denver, CO and Virginia Baldwin, (Mike) of South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hattie Seefeld, our Dad, James Mayfield, sisters, Irene Eichelberg, Elsie McAuliffe and niece, Sue Ann McAuliffe. Mom spent the last two years of her life at Hacienda Senior Assisted Living. The care Mom received while living there can only be described as compassionate and loving. We are so grateful to the staff of Hacienda for the family like atmosphere that Mom loved so dearly. Please join us to celebrate Mom's life on Saturday, December 6th, 2014 at 1:00 pm at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 518 N. Alameda, Las Cruces, NM, Bishop Jerry Lamb presiding.
