Earl, or "Bud" as he was known to his friends, was born November 26, 1929 in Amarillo, TX to Margaret Augusta Patterson and Earl Leslie Mayne, Sr. He grew up in Amarillo where he graduated from Amarillo High School. Bud attended Texas A&M for two years majoring in Veterinary Medicine before transferring to the University of New Mexico where he earned a degree in Architecture & Engineering. On July 6, 1951 Bud married Frances Joyce Edwards in Amarillo TX. After taking up residence in Albuquerque, Bud became a Registered Architect, eventually opening up his own firm. He worked primarily on projects for the various Indian reservations of northern New Mexico. After the death of his wife Joyce, Bud married Romelia Castaneda-Avila on October 17, 1980 in Albuquerque, NM. In 1985 Bud and Romelia moved with their daughter Maria to Las Cruces, as Albuquerque had become "too big." Bud continued to work as an architect finally retiring in May 2006, at age 76, from the Housing Authority of the City of Las Cruces. Bud loved the outdoors from early on. He worked summers for the Santa Fe Railroad as well as the telephone company. He passed down this love of the outdoors as well as its geology, animals, birds, insects, weather and even the sky to each of his children whether on a family day trip, camping trip or just inspecting the life in the backyard. Bud also loved movies, music (especially Jazz and Swing), contemporary art and, of course, architecture. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the March of Dimes. Services will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Friday, November 9, 2007, at 3P.M. PDF Printable Version
