Las Cruces lost a Great One on Monday, January 10, 2022, when Ed Jurney passed away after a very brief illness.

Dennis Edgar Jurney was born to Jan and Dennis Jurney in Hobbs, NM on June 4th, 1970. It was in Hobbs and later in Roswell, NM where Ed and his younger brother Allan began their lifelong passion as cowboys.

Ed attended Las Cruces High School and New Mexico State University where he played rugby. His professional career as a contractor began in 1990 at GenCon General Contractors in Las Cruces where he worked as a superintendent until 2006. He then launched his own business, Jurney Construction, and worked on numerous residential and commercial building projects all over southern New Mexico.

A man who loved to rodeo, rope and ride, Ed's working hobby was cattle ranching. Ed's son, Wyatt, 25, picked up his father's passions and works with Jurney Construction while also competing professionally as a steer wrestler. Ed's daughter, Sedona, 27, is a Commodity Clerk at a cattle operation in Amarillo, TX. She is married and is mother to Ed's precious 1st grandchild, Dennis "Mac" Myers.

The love of Ed's life was his wonderful wife Gilda (Dorbandt) Jurney. When they were not working, Ed and Gilda operated their family ranch. A favorite destination was Las Vegas. They would drag any friend willing to go, especially during the NFR.

In addition to many civic and professional groups, Ed was a proud and active member of the New Mexico Amigos and on the Board of the NM Bowl.

Ed was a loving son, a doting father, an adoring husband and an amazing friend. He will forever be remembered as a gentleman cowboy and a man of principle.

In addition to Gilda, Sedona and Wyatt, Ed is survived by his step daughter Crystal Spieker and husband Dillon, his grandchildren Myles Larcher and Ciera and Charlotte Spieker. His mother Jan Wimsatt and husband Ron; father Dennis and wife Shari; brother Allan and wife Veronica, nephews Kyton and Kyler and niece Samantha; his uncle Dick Sparks, cousin Ben; stepsisters Melissa Spangler (Amy and Joshua) and Jamie Baker, husband Jacob (Christopher, Megan and Madelyn), other uncles, aunts, cousins and 2nd cousins. He also leaves behind some "close as a brother" friends - you know who you are.

A celebration of life, in Eds honor will take place Sunday, January 23, 2022, at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, located at 4100 Dripping Springs Road, at 3PM. #EdsJurney
