LAS CRUCES - Our beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather, Dr. Edmond (Ed) Ray Mitchell, entered eternal life to be with his heavenly father on February 6, 2021. He was born in Corbin, Kentucky, August 14, 1946 to George and Cora Lee (Hubbard) Mitchell and raised in Louisville, KY. Ed served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He earned his BS from Western Kentucky University and went on to earn his D.M.D. from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. Ed married Christy (Gore) and after graduating from dental school moved to Deming where he practiced for a year before moving to Las Cruces to start his own dental practice. His love of learning and helping others led him to extend his practice implementing dental implants; his 1st patient being his father-in-law, Jim Gore. Ed was an avid sports fan. He coached both sons and grandchildren in baseball, soccer, and basketball teams. He had a great passion for horse racing, reading, traveling, the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team, Cleveland Browns, Boston Celtics, New York Yankees and supported the Aggie football and basketball teams. He served as President of the Aggie Sport's Association. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Las Cruces. Ed loved the outdoors and was a talented and advanced skier, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing golf with his family and friends. He loved working with young people and enjoyed his time working with the youth department at Temple Baptist church and singing in the church choir. Ed is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Gloria; brother-in-law (Eddie); in-laws James and Maxine (Kight) Gore and since his passing, his brother Barney and sister-in-law Judy. Ed is survived by his loving wife Christy, daughter Michelle (Scott), sons Jimmy (Mariana) and Kevin, and sister Marlene. His five grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Brittany, Alexis (Eric), Jesse, Christa, and Jersey who fondly called him Papa. Ed never met a stranger, and his contagious laugh and wonderful smile will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was considered a best friend by many.
