Eduardo P. Chavez "Pops" was called to be a servant of the Lord on Sunday, August 3, 2014. Eduardo was 73 years of age and passed away peacefully at his home in Hatch, New Mexico. Eduardo was born on March 10, 1941 in Quemado, New Mexico, to parents, Candelario and Teresita Chavez. Eduardo had two brothers, Aristeo and Lorenzo, and three sisters, Arsenia, Anne, and Frances. Eduardo attended and graduated from Quemado High School and excelled at all the sports that he participated in. Shortly after graduation, Eduardo left Quemado, New Mexico and began his career with the New Mexico State Highway Department. While working in a small town called Hatch, he met, fell in love, and got married to his wife, Aurelia Bustamante. Eduardo and Aurelia had just celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in July. Eduardo worked for the Highway department for over 28 years and retired from the same organization. While working with them, Eduardo received many safe driver awards and was proud of his position/title. Eduardo was an Operator 2, Certified 3 and on many occasions was tasked to fill out the payroll. Eduardo was a perfectionist when it came to his job, he felt that if the job needed to be done correctly, he had to do it himself. Eduardo was an avid sports fan. His favorite sports were Football, Baseball, and Boxing. He had many hobbies that kept him busy, but his favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren. Eduardo was a great dad, but when it came to his grandchildren, Eduardo was an even better grandpa, he was so proud of all of them. Eduardo's children did not know that he knew nursery rhymes and children's songs until the grandkids came around. Eduardo was a member of Our Lord Of Mercy Catholic Church in Hatch, New Mexico. Eduardo was well known to many people in the Hatch Community because he would stop and talk with everyone he met. Eduardo's philosophy was that, a stranger was just a friend that he had not met yet.
