Eduardo Sedillos (Tito), 55, of Las Cruces passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. Tito was born June 19, 1951 in El Paso, Texas, the 4th child of Hortencia and Jose Sedillos. Soon afterwards, his family moved and settled in Salem, New Mexico. He attended Salem and Hatch Elementary and then Hatch High School. Tito spent his childhood years playing baseball with the Salem Bulldogs. While he was very young, he learned how to work hard by picking vegetables, such as onions and chili in the Hatch fields. He also baled hay and irrigated the fields. At 17 years of age, his mother had to sign permission forms for Tito to join the U.S. Marine Corps. Because his older brother, Henry, was already stationed in Vietnam, Tito was not allowed to be stationed at the same place during the war. Therefore, he proudly served his country in Okinawa, Japan. "Once a Marine, Always a Marine", was his favorite motto. His service for his fellowman continued while working as a firefighter at Stallion Range in Socorro, New Mexico and then at White Sands Missile Range until he retired after 29 years. Baseball was the love of his life. He played "Old Timers Baseball" for many years, where he was the "Master of the Bunt". His latter years were spent coaching youth baseball and watching his stepson, Jaime, play baseball every season. He recently helped coach the LC Dawgs. He was a very good coach and he will be deeply missed by the team. Tito was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Joe Sedillos; his mother, Hortencia Sedillos; a niece, Laura Lucero; a nephew, Danny Lucero; and his grandmother, Beatrice Villarreal. Survivors include his loving wife, Carmen; his son Chris; two stepsons, Javier and Jaime; three daughters, Vanessa, Beatrice and Burna. His surviving sisters are Mary Lou and Irene and six surviving brothers include, Henry, Mike, Louie, Jesse, Ricky, and Bobby. He had many grandchildren and nieces and nephews. His loved ones will miss Tito very much. A visitation was held from 5 to 6:30 PM on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home. The prayer vigil was at 7:30 PM also on Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. Tito's funeral mass is at 2:00 PM today Friday, May 18, 2007 also at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral with Fr. Rene Espejel officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors. PDF Printable Version
