Edward Charles Baughman, 9/28/1927-01/17/2017 On Tuesday, January 17, 2017, after 89 years, the long, loving, interesting and fun-filled life of Ed Baughman quietly came to an end. Ed was born on September 28, 1927 in Glendale, CA. His youth and most of his adult years were spent in Southern California, where he loved the beaches and lakes. After high school, Ed attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and then served his country in the Coast Guard from 1946 to 1948. In 1951 he graduated from Woodbury University in Burbank, CA, where he made lifelong friends. Ed married Connie Reid on December 12, 1952, and for 64 years they managed the ups and downs and the joys and sorrows of marriage with love, patience, understanding, perseverance and a large amount of laughter. During those years, Ed owned a small machine shop. They had 3 children and Ed enjoyed family time coaching Little League, as a Boy Scout leader and taking many water-skiing vacations. In 1979, Ed and Connie moved to Lake Almanor, CA where they started Ed's Dock Supply, building and servicing small private boat docks for homeowners on the lake. After 20 years on the lake, they moved to Whispering Pines, NC and 5 years later moved again to Las Cruces to be near their children and grandchildren. Although he was sometimes perceived as gruff and wasn't always good at expressing himself, Ed loved his immediate and extended family deeply, and his caring and kindness for friends old and new was heartfelt. In retirement years, Ed spent much of his time traveling to visit family and friends, golfing, searching for "treasures" at yard sales and junk shops, reading Western novels and being the Master of the Remote Control, ruling from his Royal Recliner. There were very few things that he couldn't fix or find a way to utilize, and even fewer things that he ever threw away. He was known for his kindness, his fun-loving nature and his infectious laughter, and some of his favorite times were spent getting the giggles with his wife and kids. Ed was loved and will be missed by his wife Connie, his son Todd, his daughter Jaime, her fianc Dan and her kids Colleen and Catlin, his son David, daughter-in-law Lisa and their kids Justin and Conor, his 5 great-grandkids and all of his nieces, nephews and their kids. He is predeceased by his parents Al and Ruth and his sister and brother-in-law Jack and Eileen Cain. There will be no services, as the family has chosen to have a private remembrance and celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Animal Service Center of Mesilla Valley. The family gives thanks to all who touched Ed's life, and thereby touched ours. Arrangements by Getz Funeral Home, corner of Solano and Bowman Ave. in Las Cruces New Mexico.
