MONTANO On Thursday, October 7, 2010, Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary at the age of eighty-nine, Edward C. Montano of Las Cruces, NM entered into eternal life. Lalo as he was fondly known was born September 16, 1921 in Chamberino, NM to Guillermo and Felipa Chacon Montano. Edward was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served his country honorably during World War II, as a Staff Sergeant and then again was called to serve in the Korean War. While in the service he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, Prato Italy, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, North Appenines, Italy, 1 Oakleaf Cluster to Bronze Star Medal. He retired from White Sands Missile Range after 37 years of faithful service. Edward was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, enjoyed the company of all his friends, but his passion was time spent with his family, who will dearly miss him. On October 21, 1950 Edward married Eileen Butler and remained her husband until her death in December 2006, they celebrated fifty-six years together. Edward is survived by his children Vita Montano of Las Cruces, Bernice Andazola and her husband, Mike of Tempe, AZ, and Art Montano of Las Cruces. He was blessed with four grandchildren; Ryan Edward, Stacia Marie, Joshua Edward, Alexander Joseph, and one great grandchild; Chloe Marie. One brother Carlos C. Montano (Yvonne) of Ventura, CA, two sisters Rosie Prevette (Dave) of Las Cruces, and Minnie Harlow (Wayne) of Cypress, CA and his brother-in-law, Joe Fred Butler (Hortencia) of Fairacres, NM. His extended family includes many brothers- and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, compadres and friends who all cared and loved him deeply. Edward is now reunited with many loved ones including his wife, Eileen, his oldest son, Edward (Eddie), his brother, Alfonso Montano, his sisters, Helen Leggett and Benita Rice all of Las Cruces. Special thanks to the staff at the Veterans Hospital of New Mexico in Truth or Consequences for their special care, concern and kindness for the past 11 months. A visitation will be held from 5 to 6:15 PM today Friday, October 15, 2010 at Getz Funeral Home with a Rosary to follow at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1285 S. Espina, Las Cruces, NM, at 7 PM. The Funeral Mass and Celebration of his life will be at 10 AM Saturday, October, 16, 2010 also at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral with Fr. Sean Garrity officiating. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Garden Cemetery with military honors. Pall bearers will be his nephews Bill Chavez, Tommy Montano, Raul Lopez, Ken Singh, Charlie Singh and Mark Butler. Honorary pall bearers will be his son-in-law, Mike Andazola and grandsons Ryan Orme, Josh and Alex Andazola. Readings will be done by Donna Montano and Bill Harlow.
