Ret. Col. Edward T. Gonzales, 77, of Las Cruces died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007. He was born August 17, 1930 in Cloudcroft, NM. He was a graduate of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX for which he was very proud. He also served his country honorably in the United States Air Force and the United States Army where he retired as a Colonel. He served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era where he was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Campaign Medal, Commendation Medal, Expeditionary Medal Bronze Star, Air Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. Mr. Gonzales was a member of the Catholic Community and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by one son, Jim Gonzales of El Paso, TX; three daughters, Yolanda Smith, Grace Padron Gonzales and husband Felix and Nina Gonzales all of San Antonio, TX; one sister, Elena Escobedo of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren, Mercedes, Sean and Dimas; cousins Larry, Ernest Jr., John and Billy Escobedo and by many nieces and nephews. His parents Elojio and Juanita Torres Gonzales, granddaughter Simone and grandmother Alejandra Garcia preceded him in death. A Prayer Vigil will be at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel. A Memorial Mass to celebrate his life will be at 10 AM on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina with Fr. Ricardo Bauza officiating. The Rite of Committal and burial of his cremains will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
