On December 16, 2021, our very loved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle and friend Edward V. Trujillo was welcomed to Heaven and into God's arms at the age of 82. Edward was born on July 28, 1939 in Las Cruces, NM to Cruz and Albina Trujillo. He was the second oldest child of 8. While growing up, he enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, football, pool, and poker for some cash with friends. In 1953, he met Lillian Hernandez at the State Theater. They both had gone to see "Down Among the Sheltering Palm". Lillian was there alone, and Edward showed up and sat next to her. He just grabbed her hand and that was that. They dated for 7 years before getting married in 1960 in Lillian's childhood home. Together they had 4 children Ysela, Edward Jr, Michelle and Christine. In 1960, Edward began employment with the Las Cruces Public Schools. He started as a custodian at Mesilla Park Elementary. During this time, he was also drafted into the US Army and was stationed in Ft.Carson, CO. In 1964, he then enlisted in the National Guard. After completing his service, he took back his position at the schools. He retired as the Head Custodian of Las Cruces High School after 30 years. It was said that "You would always see Mr.Trujillo with a coffee mug in his hand." Even after his retirement, he had many students and teachers recognize him around town and he remembered every single one of them. Edward was a hard worker and a fighter. He was diagnosed with cancer but with his strength and perseverance fought through and became one of the strongest survivors his family had ever met. In his later years, Edward spent his time doing what he loved most: relaxing. He enjoyed watching his Chicago Cubs play a game and was proud when they won the World Series in 2016. He also loved his football games, and you could always catch him watching his Steelers play! You could always tell when they weren't doing great because he'd call them dingys and switch the channel. His grandkids could swear that was his favorite word and they all picked up the word from him. He enjoyed his lotto scratchers and bingo pull tabs. Edward enjoyed his trips to the casino and would spend time trying to convince his grandkids to take him only to be ready to come home after 20 minutes. It was once asked what his favorite thing was and he responded with a laugh "Having my babies (great grandkids) visit because they don't bother me for anything." He was always making jokes and if it didn't make you laugh, he didn't worry because he'd be laughing anyways. Edward is preceded in death by his parents Cruz and Albina, brothers Tony, Pete, and Ernest and sister Mary Helen. Edward is survived by his wife of 61 years Lillian. His daughters Ysela Chavarria (Steven), Michelle Gonzalez (Ramon) and Christine Trujillo (John). His grandchildren Bobby (Niomi), Sacha (Louie), Tiffini (Anthony), Ray Jr (Nikki), Amanda, Adrian (Leandra), Deanna, Stevie, Anthony (Alexis), Matthew (Morgan), Dante and Nathaniel. His great-grandchildren, Delylah, Raechel, Nathaniel G, Danyelle, Zaiden, Anai, Mariah, Kaylee, Mia, Xavier, Ella, Sophia, Santiago and Melanie. Great great grandson Izaiah. His brothers Ted and David and sister Mary Lou. Pallbearers will be Bobby Talamantes, Ray Jr Gonzalez, Adrian Gonzalez, Anthony Gonzalez, Nathaniel Marquez and Anthony Holguin.
