Elena Payan Casas, 81 of Las Cruces, NM passed away peacefully at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in Las Cruces, NM to be with her Lord and Savior. Elena Payan Casas, 81 of Las Cruces, NM passed away peacefully at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in Las Cruces, NM to be with her Lord and Savior. Elena was born in Saucillo, Mexico on December 22, 1927 to her parents Pablo and Maria Payan. Elena was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral where she sang with the choir and was involved with El Buen Pastor. Elena enjoyed being surrounded by her family, cooking, singing with her church group, attending retreats with her sisters in Christ and sewing. Our mother will be greatly missed by her community, her friends and all her family. Elena was preceded in death by her son Oscar Casas, parents Pablo and Maria Payan, her sister's Ramona Payan, Maria Eguiarte, Feliciana Olvera and Natividad Silva. She is survived by her husband Encarnacion Casas, her children; three sons, Antonio (Tony) Casas and wife Norma from San Diego, CA. Encarnacion P. Casas, Jr. and wife Carla, Ruben Casas and wife Lucille all of Las Cruces, NM. Three daughters, Irma Carver and husband George of Atlanta, GA. Alicia Alvarado of El Paso, Texas and Rosa Cabrera of Las Cruces, NM. She is also survived by her sister Sofia Gonzales of Rialto, CA a nephew Carlos Payan (Irene) of El Paso, TX and a niece Aurora Provencio (Manny) of El Paso, Texas. 14 Grandchildren
