Elena Vulcan, 89, of Las Cruces, left this world and went on to be with the Lord God on Monday, April 1st, after surviving a crippling stroke for almost two years and a half. She was born August 8, 1923 in a small village of Romania, the youngest of four daughters of Gheorghe and Maria Stanescu. Noticing her special gift of music and poetry, her primary school teacher convinced the parents to let her continue her education. She was a teacher for 35 years in her native homeland. At the age of 65, a few years after losing her husband Gheorghe Vulcan, she came to the United Stated to live with her only son, Teodor Vulcan. She learned English in a short time and translated some of the old Romanian stories for the children of her adoptive homeland. She even wrote a few poems in the new language, some of then being published in the Newsletter of the Church she attended at the time. She had a lovely personality and made many new friends in Las Cruces. She was a wonderful teacher, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an inspiration for the loved ones she left behind: Teodor, her son, Marius, Julia, Lucia and Alina, her grandchildren, and Mathew, her great-grandson. A memorial service will be held by Pastor Dr. Buni Cocar at 10 am on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88001. PDF Printable Version
