Elizabeth Sage joined her husband at the feet of Jesus on April 6, 2016. She was 93 years old. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 29, 2016, at noon, at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3111 N. Main St., Las Cruces, NM.. Davida Elizabeth Whitmore was born October 29, 1922, in Wichita, Kansas, the middle daughter of Max and Davida Whitmore. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1940 and began her college studies at Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kansas. It was there she met Ray Sage, who would become the love of her life for the next 74 years. They were married December 20, 1941, and in 1942 Ray joined the Army Air Corps and began training as a pilot. Elizabeth followed Ray to different training bases, later waiting for his return from World War II. After the war, Elizabeth helped support Ray as he completed law school in Topeka, Kansas. Upon graduation, the young couple traveled to Carlsbad, New Mexico, where they became parents to their own three daughters. Moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico, in 1968, they settled into the city that would become their true home. They were great fans of the New Mexico State Aggies-both women's and men's teams. For Elizabeth, a great day included lunch at the Burger Nook and an afternoon of duplicate bridge, followed by a Lady Aggies tailgate dinner and a volleyball game at the Pan Am Center. Elizabeth worked many years at Ray's side in his law office, serving as bookkeeper and errand runner. She was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church and loved singing the "old-time" hymns. She followed the activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, delighting when the entire family got together in Las Cruces. She will be missed by many. Elizabeth and Ray were temporarily separated when Ray died in 2014. She is survived by daughters Katie Gaffney and husband Pat, Mannie Bemis and husband Tom, Jane Anderson and husband Charlie, grandchildren Laurie Adams and husband Jason, Jennifer Mann and husband Chad, Paul Bemis and wife Kim, Ricky Anderson and wife Jana, Christian Gaffney and wife Stephanie, Melissa Madara and husband David, Robby Anderson, Stephanie Yocom and husband Ben, Joe Anderson and wife Melissa, and numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom adored their Grandmother. The family wishes to thank Rev. Bob Scott; Brenda, Kualy and Christina at the Burger Nook; Barbara, Patsy, and all the bridge players at the Belton Duplicate Bridge Center; and Greg, Joanne, and the Lady Aggies Tailgaters for their friendship, love and steadfast devotion. In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends to make a donation to Exponential Church, 2029 South West Providence Place, Port St. Lucie, Florida, pastored by Ray and Elizabeth's grandson, Christian Gaffney.
