Elsie J. Nyberg Testa was born September 25, 1931, in Joy Illinois, the daughter of Carl and Nannie Nyberg. Elsie graduated from high school in 1949 and worked for State Farm Insurance for several years. She also attended Business College. In 1951, she married John W. Curkendall in Peoria, Illinois. The couple had five children; however, the marriage ended in 1965. Elsie raised her five children. She worked at Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque from 1959 to 1970 when she married John A. Testa (formerly of Brooklyn, New York.) The couple lived in Alamogordo for several years where Elsie attended NMSU Branch College and also worked part-time at White Sands National Monument. In 1973 they moved to Las Cruces where Elsie received her BBS degree in January 1975 and a Masters Degree in May 1976. Elsie worked at Memorial Hospital and later for NMSU as Budget Officer until she retired in 1992. Mrs. Testa was a member of the Mortar Board Sorority, the NMSU Alumni Association, and the Las Cruces Symphony Association. She was a member and faithful worshiper at the Mission Lutheran Church, Las Cruces, since 1995. Her favorite passage from the New Testament is I Corinthaians, Chapter 13. Preferred hymns are "The Old Rugged Cross", In the Garden", and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Visitation will be on Friday, November 15, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Getz Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Mission Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Carabotta officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
