Elva Dean Hewitt, 78 of Las Cruces, NM died Sunday January 20, 2008 at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice. She was born October 10, 1929 in Laverne, OK to Lewis and Myrtle Spalding. She was a wonderful mother and with the help of her late husband Keith H. Hewitt raised 9 children. Elva was very active with her family and enjoyed play cards, board games and bowling, or just sitting back and listening to her Country Music, which she adored. She was a member of both the V.F.W. Post 10124 and the Las Cruces Fraternal Order of Eagles. Elva enjoyed sewing western costumes and cloths, but one of her greatest loves was cooking for her family. She will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her. She is survived by two sons, Jay K. Hewitt of Santa Fe, NM and Edwin L. Hewitt of Los Lunas, NM; six daughters, Shirley D. Phipps and Jeff Thomas of Phoenix, AZ; Debra K. Riordan and Kevin Ferguson, Sandra J. Smith and husband Paul, Virginia L. Fowler and husband Doug all of Las Cruces, NM; Janet S. Hamblin of Santa Fe, NM; and Tammy A. Jordan and husband Bill of Port Orchard, WA. She is also survived by one brother, Jim Spalding of Springer, NM; two sisters Virginia I. Fleak of Victor, MT; and Lula Bush of Vequita, NM; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren with one on the way, and also by two ex-son-in-laws Joe Phipps and George Riordan. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Keith Hewitt and one daughter Dona Lee Hewitt. A visitation will be held from 1-2 PM at Getz Funeral Home on Wednesday January 23, 2008. The Funeral Service will follow the same day at 2 PM also at Getz Funeral Home. Burial will take place Thursday January 24, 2008 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at 1:30 PM.
