Surrounded by loving family and friends, Elva Jacques Guerrero passed peacefully at home on December 20, 2017 after an extended illness. Elva was born on April 3, 1939 in Anthony NM, and married Martin R. Guerrero in 1958. His military career allowed the couple and their three children to travel and experience the world, spending time at Wheelus AFB in Tripoli, Libya, Beale AFB in Marysville, CA, and the RAF in Upper Hoeyford, England before settling in at Holloman AFB where he retired. The family then moved to Las Cruces where Elva fashioned their cozy home, just as she had during their travels. Elva never knew a stranger and was a loving mother to so many, not only her own children. Neighbors, friends, and extended family were welcomed, fed, and left feeling full, loved, and happy. After her own children were grown, Elva worked at Alameda Elementary where she continued to help children feel loved and successful. She and her daughter, Lisa, both loved baking and they spent several years sharing that love with young people by teaching a class through DACC. Her family and many friends will always remember her sweet nature, loving smile, and unconditional support. In recent years, Elva had the joy of caring for and being cared for by three of her many precious grandchildren, Summer Lee Johnson, Jerrid Guerrero, and Jordan Deskin. Expressing deep gratitude and appreciation, the family would like to extend special thanks to long-time friends Bill and Sandy Leopold, Cole and Ruth Harwell, and Jenny (Limas) Williams for their loving support at this difficult t` ime. Elva was preceded in death by her husband, Martin R. Guerrero, and daughter, Lisa Jacques Carrera (Jessie Carrera). She is survived and will be deeply missed by sons, Pablo Jacques Guerrero (Dennis Callahan) and Martin Ross Guerrero Jr. (Lourdes Guerrero); brothers, Salvador Jacques, Ruben Jacques (Lucy); sisters, Mary Lou Trujillo (Wilfred), Enedina Jacques (Jerry), and Sylvia Jacques, in addition many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Elva Jacques Guerrero will be interred with her loving husband at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso on Friday December 29, 2017 at 1:30 PM. The Guerrero family will be having a memorial gathering at Elva's home, 2016 Princess Jeanne, on Thursday, December 28, 2017, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Please bring pictures and/or favorite stories.
