Elvira A. Lopez, 97 years old of Dona Ana, NM died Friday, September 15, 2006 at her home. Elvira was born October 22, 1908 in Camargo, Mexico to Baltazar and Bernardina Acosta. The youngest child of nine born, she came to the United States at the age of seven and never returned. On August 5, 1927 Elvira married Juan Lopez and proceeded to have 14 children together, of which seven are currently living. Elvira and Juan settled in Dona Ana and have been there for over 50 years. Elvira was an active participant on all the activities of Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church and had worked tirelessly to raise funds for the building of the church by making countless enchilada dinners on Saturday evenings. Elvira's tenderness, strength and love will be missed but her memory will live on forever. Elvira is survived by four sons, Joe Lopez and his wife Carmen; Walter Lopez and his wife Enedina; Jessie Lopez and his wife Lillian and Jose Lopez and his wife Cruz. Three daughters, Lala Aragon and her husband Jose; Rebecca Martinez; and Nellie Wells and her husband Robert. Also surviving Elvira are 39 grandchildren; 90 great grandchildren; 63 great-great grandchildren, and two great-great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Juan in 1984, five sons; Juan, Ramon, Monserrato, Willie, and Johnny; and two daughters; Bernardina and Manuelita. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 PM on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church, 5525 Cristo Rey, in Dona Ana where the Prayer Vigil will follow at 7 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10 AM on Thursday, September 21, 2006 also at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Serving, as pallbearers will be Ronnie Lopez, Joe James Lopez, Jose S. Lopez Jr., Caesar Lopez, Walter Lopez Jr., and Willie Lopez. Honorary pallbearers will be Sergio Trujillo, and Kevin Lucero.
