Emma Wickline (nee Barg), 95, of Las Cruces is at home with her Lord. She passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. She had been living in Las Cruces with her daughter and son-in-law since 1997. In 2010 she moved to The Good Samaritan Village Health Care Center. Emma had a long and happy life and will be remembered for her love of God, Family, Friends and Country. She was a lifelong Lutheran and lived her faith daily. She enjoyed her home where she spent many hours in her garden and with family and friends. She was an avid sports fan with a special passion for her Nebraska Cornhuskers and her LA Dodgers. She was born at home in Ponca, Nebraska, May 5, 1915. She grew up during the Great Depression and graduated from Ponca High School in 1932. Following graduation she went to work for the Nebraska Farm Bureau before moving to Santa Monica, California. She married her "Knight in Shining Armour", Lewis Jackson Wickline, on July 12, 1942 and was married for nearly 55 years when he passed away in 1997. Lewis was in the Army Air Corps/United States Air Force and Emma was the consummate homemaker keeping the family together, happy and comfortable. Her joy in life was a happy home surrounded by family and friends. Emma was the ultimate "helper", always there to help and encourage. She loved the out-of-doors, gardening, fishing, reading, watching her Cornhuskers and Dodgers, sewing, baking and crocheting. She gave to her community by sharing her time and talents with her church congregations, the American Cancer Society, Girl Scouts of America, Republican Party and Senior Citizens. Locally she will be remembered for her beautiful afghans that were often raffled to support church activities and her lemon meringue pies. In later years she spent many happy, restful hours on the patio with her daughter, son-in-law, family and friends enjoying friendship and the beautiful desert sunsets. Emma was a founding member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lancaster, California; the Rosamond Senior Citizens in Rosamond, California; and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Las Cruces since 1997. Lewis and Emma Wickline had two daughters, Bette Louise Wickline who passed away in 1979, and Jacalyn Lee (Wickline) Ryberg and her husband Jan of Las Cruces, NM. Along with Jacalyn she is survived by grandchildren, Michelle Lynn (Andrew) Patterson of Las Cruces, NM and Chad (Jaime) Ryberg of Lake St. Louis, MO; great-granddaughters, Emmalee Mae Patterson and Kaitlyn Ruth Ryberg; sister, Elsie Gladhart of Hawthorne, CA; nieces, Sally Conway Blair, Carol Barg Heath, and nephew, John Barg. Preceding her in death were her husband, Lewis Jackson Wickline; daughter, Bette Louise Wickline; brother, Joe Barg; nephew, Donald Conway, and her parents, Karl Heinrich and Louise Carolina (Buettner) Barg. A Memorial Service to celebrate Emma's life will be on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2900 Elks Drive in Las Cruces, officiated by Pastor Scott Jorgenson.
