Erasmo “EZ” Zubia, 58, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 22, 2023, in Las Cruces, New Mexico surrounded by his wife and his siblings by his side.
Born March 1, 1965 in Canutillo, Texas. Erasmo grew up in Stahmann Farms then in his teens moved to Las Cruces with his parents and siblings. Erasmo went to Court Junior High where he played football, and graduated from Mayfield High School in 1983. After high school, he worked briefly for Estrada Construction Company then eventually started working for Valley Transit Mix along with his two older brothers. Erasmo started his truck driving career with Zubia Farms Trucking working again with his brothers Tom and Leandro.
EZ eventually moved to Dallas, Texas, late of 1989 where he continued his truck driving career working for different trucking companies. Then had the opportunity to change careers as a Communications Tech. He loved it so much was eventually promoted to a Project Manager at Southwest Networks. Erasmo eventually went to work with Tarrant County Sheriff Department as a Correction Officer for 10 years and was part of the SRT Unit, was also SRT 1 and Instructor for his unit. He was very passionate about the group of officers he worked with. Had an opportunity to work for Assured Comfort Services as the Warehouse Manager, he loved that it was diverse one day to the next, if he wasn’t delivering supplies, was looking after the work trucks, keeping them in tip top shape, pulling trailers, or assisting in plumbing, or HVAC projects. While working at ACS, or working at his many careers, he always created long-lasting friendships, camaraderie, and a sense of family wherever he worked. With every job he did, he gave 110%. He not only gave, he loved to teach his co-workers with his knowledge of every job. His famous quote was, “Work smarter, not harder.” He was most proud of his work ethic passed on from his parents and siblings.
Erasmo was number 8 of 11 siblings. He was lovingly referred to as “Rumber”. He loved talking about his childhood. The memories of growing up on Stahmann Farms. Even after moving to the family home on Hadley, the recollections of growing up with all his brothers and sisters remained priceless. A particular memory was eating his mom’s empanadas while hunting with his brothers and dad.
His love of sports included football, baseball, and basketball. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, if you asked him, he bleed blue. He even named his daughter Dallas. It didn’t matter if they were winning or losing, he was a loyal fan until the end.
If he wasn’t watching sports, he loved going to watch his grandson play football and baseball.
Erasmo was also a fur-dad to 5 dogs who gave him much comfort, 3 whom will meet him at the gates of Heaven. Sophie and Roscoe will surely miss their fur-dad.
He will be sincerely missed by many. He is survived by his wife Cindy Zubia, two daughters Dallas Zubia and Gabrielle Alejo, and grandson Kyree James Zubia.
