Erminda " Minda " Borunda Mayers age 71 passed away Sept 23 2021 in her home in Dona Ana. She was born on September 19, 1950 at the family home in San Ysrido to Enrique Borunda Sr. and Genevieve Melendrez Borunda. She is survived by siblings Jerry "Chato" Borunda, Thomas "Tuffy" Borunda, and Leo Borunda (Debbie Flores Borunda). She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother Henry "Hanky" Borunda, sister Cecilia Wood, nephew Geraldo "Gerito" Borunda and niece Maria Elena Borunda. She was married to George Pena Mayers for 51 years. They lived and raised their family in Dona Ana where she raised 3 daughters Naomi Eve Mayers Moreno (Roman Moreno), Vanessa Ann Mayers, Tanya Lynn Mayers and grandson Adrian George Mayers. Minda graduated from Mayfield Highschool in 1968. She graduated from Dona Ana Beauty College in 1969. She did hair in various hair salons in the 70's and early 80's and continued to cut and style hair for family and friends all her life in her family home. She was employed for many years at Sears Catalog in the old downtown mall and when the "new" mall was built she worked at Sears there. She was also employed at Cable TV and finally worked at New Mexico State University for a total of 26 years where she finally retired. She had nine grandchildren whom she lovingly referred to as her babies. Adrian George Mayers, Jayme Lynn Lucero, Cynthia Montes, Luis Mendoza, Genevive "BabyGirl" Mendoza, Lucinda Moreno, Roman Jr. Moreno, Audrey Moreno, and Juliette Moreno. She had 3 great-grandchildren Skye Mayers, Autumn Ortega, and Michael Ortega. Minda had many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. She was also honored to be godmother "nina" to many and prayed for everyone. Minda was a lifelong devoted Catholic. She taught catechism for many children including her own throughout the years. She served as a eucharistic minister for several years and always kept a prayerful life. She loved her faith and her message to all in her last days were "Love, love, love. There is no hate only love". She loved her little casita in Dona Ana where she lived with her husband and beloved pets Peony her little dog and Shadow "kitty cat". Minda's home was a second home to many throughout the years. She was always welcoming and kind and loved a full house. Those who knew Minda knew she always enjoyed joking around. She was fun loving and always cheerful and kind. Even during the toughest times of her illness, she never complained and was an inspiration to all who knew her. We would like to extend a special thank you to Kay Lucero and Rosemary Gonzalez her close cousins and her cherished sisters in law Josie Chavez and Margie De La O for their love and support throughout her life. Also, thank you to all the doctors, nurses and caregivers who helped care for our sweet little mom. Pall barriers will include Adrian Mayers, Luis Mendoza, Roman Moreno, Roman Jr. Moreno, Julian "Gori" Mayers and Ronnie Murphey.
