Ernest A. Thompson, 65, of Las Cruces, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012. Ron as he was fondly known was born March 28, 1947 in Oklahoma City, OK to Ernest and Delma Martinez Thompson. Ron was raised in Oakland and Richmond, CA and graduated form Richmond Union High School in 1965. He had been disabled for 8 years, but before that enjoyed several different jobs in Las Cruces including driving truck for Jerry's Perfect Pet Shops, working in the pet department of the old Walmart, and driving a school bus. He enjoyed coaching and coached girls' softball, boys bantam weight football, soccer, boys bantam weight basketball and was a bowling instructor for the youth bowling association. He deeply enjoyed bowling and all the friends he made at the bowling alley. He was a member of the Chili's Bowing Club. He was also on the Las Cruces Men's Bowling Association working his way up to President. He was also on the state Men's Bowling Association and ended as president the year of the Men's Association. Ron will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife Laurie Thompson of Las Cruces; daughters Christina Colvin and husband Shane of Las cruces; Charity Guerrero and husband Mario of Las Cruces; son David Thompson of Las Cruces; grandchildren Taylor, Dakota, Zachary, and Jonathon. His brothers are: Angelo Morales and Rich Morales both of Northern California, and a sister: Grace Morales also of Northern California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delma and Ernest. A memorial service will be held from 5:30-6:30 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces.
