We are saddened to announce the passing of Estella Pacheco, 92, a cherished Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. Estella passed away Feb 1, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 24, 1931, to Juan & Petra Misquez from San Ysidro, NM. Her infectious smile & kind heart made her a beacon of light for all those she has touched. She loved baking, crocheting, tending to her turtles, fur babies “Boy” and “Bella,” dancing, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid shopper and lover of red Enchiladas, but there was never a day she would not stop by Day’s Hamburger for her fix.


Estella was a member of Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church. She served on many committees and religious organizations within the church. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, Sacred Heart, Alter Society, sang in the church choir, performed in Las Posadas during Christmas and Stations of the Cross during Lent, a member of Los Indigenes de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, until she married Leonardo Pacheco, Elder of La Danza Azteca Chichimeca. As Elder, she continued her “promesa for Our Lady of Guadalupe” and held the position of “President” of the Board of Directors together with her husband devoting her life to keeping the customs and traditions alive for future generations.


Estella is survived by her children, Mary Lara (David), Yolanda Jaramillo (John), Patsy Corona (Jesse), Viola Pacheco, Pauline Pacheco, Dorothy Andrade (Jose), Benita Zamora (Rudy), Rachel Pacheco (Fernie), Eva Hernandez (Vince), 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Delia Perez, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


Estella is preceded in death by her husband Leonardo Pacheco, daughters Jesse Saenz, Jenny Naron, her son Leo Jr Pacheco, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, parents Juan and Petra Misquez, Brothers Ernesto Misquez Ismael Misquez and sister Bertha Misquez


A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. with the Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church, Tortugas, NM. The Funeral mass will be held Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church, Tortugas, NM with burial to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery.
