Esther G. Giron, 93, of Dona Ana, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 6, 1912 in Dona Ana to David Garcia and Jesusita Apodaca Garcia. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Purification Church and a lifelong resident of Dona Ana. She was a homemaker and taught catechism to many generations of children and was involved in many church activities. Many years as a volunteer in VISTA, helping needy residents throughout Dona Ana County, provided her great joy and left her with lasting friends who loved her. Survivors include four daughters, Corine Scott and husband Beldon of Springfield, Virginia; Mabel Ruiz; Alice Head and husband John; and Erma Giron, all of Dona Ana; and one son David Giron and wife Terri, also of Dona Ana. Other survivors include ten grandchildren, William Schweitzer, Linda Bush, Yvette Nunez, Erika Giron, Jessica Giron, Sylvia Giron, David Alexander Giron, Mary Esther May, Elizabeth Quinones, and John Anthony Garcia; fifteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Her parents and loving husband of fifty-six years, Guillermo "Willie" Giron, stepfather Juan Antonio "Tony" Mendivil, brother Victor Garcia, sister Sunamita Madrid and a granddaughter, Danielle Garcia preceded her in death. Visitation for Esther will begin at 5:00 pm Friday, April 7, 2006 at Our Lady of Purification Church in Dona Ana followed by a prayer vigil at 7:00 pm. The funeral mass will begin at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria (the old Dona Ana Catholic Church) with Father Miguel Macaya officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Anthony Garcia, William (Billy) Schweitzer, David Alexander Giron, Daniel Madrid, Jim Quinones, and Lorenzo Nunez.
