Esther (Tulley) Gamboa Barncastle Jackovich, entered eternal life at age 93, on August 15, 2014 at her home in Las Cruces, NM. She was born on July 15, 1921 in Mesilla to Alfredo P. and Annie Gohlson Gamboa. As a member of the pioneering families, Barncastle and Gamboa, she was a lifelong resident of Las Cruces. She is survived by sons Fred R. Barncastle, George Thomas, Tim (Renee), Chris and John Frances "Frannie" Jackovich. She is survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Tulley was well known as a vivacious entrepreneur and an active participant within the community. As an employee of the ladies dress shop, The Merry Go Round in the 1960's and 70's, Tulley loved being at the height of fashion and continued to be so throughout her life. She was the proprietor of the Gateway Gardens Nightclub as well as Tulley's Package Liquor Store. Each of the businesses were considered to be a neighborhood gathering place and many Las Cruces residents met there to socialize. You could also find Tulley and her family every holiday season selling beautiful Christmas trees at the family lot on Solano Drive, an activity that brought her a great joy. This was another avenue that brought her pleasure in interacting with the community. Her other passions included playing golf and being a member of the La Ristra Women's Bowling League. Having a generous and fun loving spirit, those who came into contact with her felt warmth, enjoyment and a sense of belonging that was always appreciated. Tulley was a devout Catholic who knew the significance of her relationship with Christ. She faithfully served as catechist, teaching young children Catechism, encouraging her sons as altar boys and working in the Saint Albert the Great Newman Center kitchen preparing meals for college students. Her tender devotion to her faith was practiced beyond church walls. She was preceded in death by husband Fred A. Barncastle, son John Michael Barncastle, husband George Jackovich, her parents and sisters Adelina Gomez, Josephine Biel, Rosemary Salas, Annie Gamboa, Ernestine (Bebe) Moore and brothers Robert, Carlos, James, Alfredo G., and Rudy Gamboa. A prayer vigil will be Saturday August 23, 2014 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral liturgy at the Saint Albert the Great Newman Center . Inurnment of the remains will be at the church Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Saint Albert the Great Newman Center Building Fund in Tulley's memory.
