Fernmonica Franklin Smith, also known just as grandma Fern, being the age of 96 years old when she passed on, she lived a long full loving life, on Wednesday, September 16, at Casa Del Sol when the good Lord decided to take his child home. Born on May 28, 1918 in Kelly, NM with parents Samuel Franklin and Juanita Sanches. Growing up with 3 brothers and 2 sisters here in New Mexico. She married her soul mate John Smith and became widowed in 1980. Back in the good ole days she worked at Douglas aircraft as a electronic for 25 years. She loved gambling, baking, crocheting, gardening, and traveling. She also loved animals, birds were her favorite. She had a McCaw named Sam, and a dog named Bebe. She enjoyed getting her hair and makeup done too. She was a very strong independent Christian woman who was always there for her family. She had one child her son Frank Smith (74) and 4 grandchildren Candy, Seci, Francis and John Smith, and 4 great grandchildren, Elysha, Sabryna, Brandy and Elijah Smith and one great-great grandchild Aubrey Lynn. She lived a long living life and got to meet and see amazing people throughout her life time. So many people will remember her and the things she did and we will remember all the things we did for her and the ones who took care of her in her final time left. Her granddaughter Melissa Smith, cherished every moment with her and I know grandma Fern was very blessed with the life and loving family she had. We will always remember you, always loved, and never forgotten. A Visitation is scheduled for Monday, September 22, 2014 from 4-6pm in the Getz Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will be Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 10:00am at Las Cruces First Assembly of God with burial to follow at Garden of Memories in Hatch, NM. PDF Printable Version
