It is with heaviness of heart and soul, the family of Frances Montez Wilson, "Granny," 92, wish to inform friends of the passing away of our dear Mother and Grandmother on November 1, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt O. Wilson. She devoted to God, her family and her friends. She was a friend to everyone she met with her kind words, beautiful smile, sparkling blue eyes and warm, inviting personality. Mom was a very giving person. She took such joy in keeping toys in her car to give kids she met along the way. Montez was born the 4th of 6 daughters on May 6, 1924 to Reidie Glenn and Mary Elizabeth Huguley in Tuskegee, Alabama. She married a dashing young man, Hoyt Wilson, on May 30, 1942. He swept her off to Puerto Rico where they lived for 2 years during WWII. They made dear friends there who convinced them to move to Anthony and help start up a land leveling business. Intending to stay only 6 months, they fell in love with the valley and made it their lifetime home. They raised 4 daughters there: Barbara (Aleck) Dugally, Patricia (Barry) Swanson, Karen (Bob) Keller, and Marcelle Ruiz. Montez is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Matthew Dugally, Mark Dugally, Sarah LaRock Wellborn, Jared LaRock, Joshua Dominguez, and Justin Dominguez, and 10 great grandchildren. We remember her as a dedicated "room mother" in our classrooms bringing goodies to the delight of our schoolmates. Many young girls were inspired by her dedication to being an amazing Girl Scout leader bringing experiences into their lives that guided them into adulthood. She worked at Ben Franklin for many years and it was her delight to help customers with their shopping. She was awarded the Sigma Phi "Woman of the Year" for her dedication to the community. We will remember her reading her Bible daily and living a life that was directed by her love for God. Although Alzheimer's is a cruel disease, it never robbed her of the love she had for God, her family or friends. A special thanks to Bonnie Zeiler and the staff at the Village of Northrise Memory Care unit for the superb, loving care she received and for the comfort and peace of mind the family had in knowing she was happy and well cared for. Also, a very special thanks to all the friends and caretakers throughout the years that brought her so much joy. A viewing will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday, November 3, 2016 in the Getz Funeral Home Chapel located at 1410 E. Bowman Ave., Las Cruces, New Mexico 88001. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, November 4, 2016 in the Getz Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at the Anthony Cemetery in Anthony, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Montez's honor to Anthony Cemetery in care of Nelson Martin. P.O. Box 187, La Mesa, NM 88044 or call (915) 373-4479.
