Frances Pierce passed away on July 13, 2010 at the age of 84 following a brief illness. She was born March 6, 1926 in Rapid City, South Dakota, to the late Bernhard and Margreta Norby. She married Monroe W. Pierce in 1945 in Oklahoma City, OK, where they made their home for a brief time before permanently relocating to Las Cruces in 1948. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Service for 31 years before retiring in 1980. She donated time and money to many different organizations in her lifetime, including one that she admired most, Cowboys for Cancer. She was a die hard baseball fan, and a lifetime supporter of the Atlanta Braves. Her quick smile, witty jokes, surprising Christmas presents and giving spirit will be missed by her family, her friends, and everyone who knew her. Frances is survived by her four children, Nancy Long (Jimmy) of Camarillo, CA, Ron Pierce (Sandy) and Rick Pierce (Judy Martens), both of Las Cruces, and Wendy Miller (Bill) of Paul's Valley, OK, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Monroe, seven sisters and two brothers. Viewing will be held Friday, July 16th from 5-7pm at Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 17th at 10am at Getz Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are sent to Cowboys for Cancer Research P.O. Box 202 Dona Ana, NM 88032 Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Danny Long, Jerel Long, Justin Wells, Jesse Wells, Jordan Pierce, and Devan Scott.
