Francisco "Frank" Gabriel Avalos, age 76, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. A lifetime Las Crucen, Frank was born June 4, 1945, to Felipe and Aurora Avalos. He served his country with the United States Army, stationed in Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1969. He returned home to attend New Mexico State University and pursued a degree in accounting. Upon graduation, he became a civil servant and worked as an accountant for the United States Postal Service for 38 years prior to his well-deserved retirement. Throughout the years he was a Mickey Mantle and Sandy Koufax League coach of both the Jets and Indios baseball teams with his brothers. He spent many years playing in various bowling leagues with his wife, was a member of the Moose Lodge, and loved spending his free time at the Sunland Park Horse Races. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of almost 45 years, Maryanne Avalos; a stepson, Michael Hernandez and wife Erica of Las Cruces; a granddaughter, Brittney Hernandez and great-grandson Jaiden Jasso (his little dude) of Las Cruces; four brothers, David Avalos (Bobbi) of Las Cruces, Samuel Avalos (Socorro) of Las Cruces, George Avalos of Carrollton, TX, Juan "Archie" Avalos (Geraldine) of Las Cruces; three sisters, Gloria Hernandez of Las Cruces, Alicia Arrey of Las Cruces, and Ermmelinda "Nora" Foster (Steven) of Euless, TX. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Avalos; sister, Mary Helen Gomez; and brothers-in-law, Ricardo "Rickey" Reyes, Lawrence "Larry" Arrey, and Albert Hernandez. Visitation for Mr. Avalos will begin at 9 AM Friday, June 10, 2022, at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina Street, where the Rosary is scheduled for 9:30 AM. The Holy Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10 AM with burial services following immediately thereafter at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Hernandez, Sam Avalos, Roman Sambrano, Jon Khalilnaji-Otto, Elmer Madriaga, and Florencio Flores. Arrangements by Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E.
