Fred Settles Jr., 55, of Las Cruces and formerly of Harlem, NY, was suddenly called home to be with the Lord on Dec. 25, 2011. Fred was born Dec. 12, 1956 to his parents Fred and Rebecca Settles, Sr. In 1989 Fred moved to Las Cruces, NM and fell in love with the desert and decided this would be his home and he became a resident for over 22 years. Fred was employed by Tresco, Inc., since 1993 working various positions at WSMR in the Alamogordo Facility, the Mess Hall serving our military in food service. Fred loved his job, where he had been the recipient of numerous awards during his years of faithful service, among them the Disabled Employee of the Year Award on the Local, State and National level. Fred was a friendly and kind person, who loved to meet and greet people and get to know them. A devoted member of Latter Rain Harvest Fellowship, Fred served faithfully as an usher, but was known for serving wherever he was needed. Fred had a special talent of remembering birthdays, special events, and occasions in the lives of those he met and developed friendships; and he would always have a card, gift, or kind word for you. He loved life and loved to celebrate others. Now Jesus is celebrating him, and he will be greatly missed by all of us who have been touched by his life. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 at Latter Rain Harvest Fellowship located at the corner of Court St. and Water St. across from The Bank of the Rio Grande. Fred's funeral service to celebrate his life will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Mary Sellers officiating and eulogizing. Fred will be laid to rest at Masonic Cemetery. The honor of being a pallbearer goes to Shaquelle and Clay Pettes, Derrick Lee, George Washington, Jeff Collins and Kenneth Dixon. Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Bob Sellers, Notre Williams, Jonathan Roundtree, Carl Applewhite, Danny Reeves and Nick Jaramillo. PDF Printable Version
