Fred Seybert Jr.

August 29, 1922 — March 8, 2009

Fred Seybert, Jr. passed away March 8, 2009 at The Village of Northrise in Las Cruces. He was born August 29, 1922 in Scott, Indiana, to Fred Seybert, Sr. and Blanche Bowerman Seybert. He married Mary Carolyn Almasi on January 7, 1946. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2007. Fred served in the US Army during World War II as a member of General George Patton's 3rd Army in the European Theater of Operation and in the Pacific Theater of Operation. He also participated in the occupation of Japan and spent his last three years of military service in the Territory of Alaska. He earned the following awards: Bronze Star Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Ribbon, Asian/African/Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, World War II Occupation Ribbon, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and the Belgian Croix Deguerre Ribbon. He was honorably discharged in 1949 at the rank of First Sergeant. Fred is survived by his ten children: Fred III (Julia) of Las Cruces; Jerry (Beckie) of Oro Valley, AZ; Mary Ann (Tim Timmons) of Deming; Scott (Janis) of Albuquerque; Jack (JoAlice) of Johnstown, CO; Steve (Jeovanna) of DeRidder, LA; Jim (Nancy) of Perryton, TX; Tim (Margaret) of Deming; Nancy (Mike Riley) of Las Cruces; and Jennifer (Steven Armstrong) of Wylie, TX. 33 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren also survive him. Fred had a great affection and love for draft horses. He will be carried to the cemetery in his horse drawn 1907 Crane and Breed hearse with the Belgian horses provided by Pareo Farms of Vegita, New Mexico. Jordan and Beverly Pareo are long time friends of the Seybert family. The Prayer Vigil will be at 7 pm on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 612 S. Copper St., Deming. The Funeral Liturgy will at 10 am on Thursday, March 12, 2009 also at Holy Family Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Serving, as pallbearers will be eight of his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Hatcher, Claude Leyendecker, Jordan Pareo, Luis Villezcas, and Cosme Romero. PDF Printable Version
