Gretchen Hope Dawes

Gretchen Hope Dawes entered this world on Valentines Day, 1934. She returned to her Savior May 7th at her home surrounded by a loving family. Gretchen met Ron Dawes in El Paso while he was enlisted in the Army. They married July 19, 1957, after being discharged they moved to Las Cruces where they owned a successful drugstore for 30 years. The Dawes recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends. Gretchen and Ron raised 3 children in Las Cruces while being active in local horse clubs, political interests, civic organizations and Daughters of the King. She was an animal lover and supported many organizations. Gretchen was manager of the Southern New Mexico State Fair Horse show for 20 years, was a founder and past president of LCHA and was a 25-year member of the Wednesday Evening Bridge Club with many of her close friends. She will be deeply missed by all her family and many close friends who knew and loved her. Gretchen is survived by her husband, Ron; daughter, Kathy and husband Jim of Midland, TX; son, Dan of El Paso; daughter, Greta and husband Brett of Silver City; three loving grandchildren, Savannah Wise, Zoe and Trent Kasten. Gretchen loved spending time with her Yorkie companions, Calvin for 17 years and Carlee. Her mother, Gretchen Brown and canine companion, Calvin, preceded her in death. Memorial Services to celebrate her life will be Monday, May 12, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. James Episcopal Church, followed by a reception at the parish hall hosted by the Daughters of the King.
